95 2.3 timing chain

i recently purchased a 95 GA SE 4 door with a 2.3 and an auto in it. i was told by a local mechanic that it needed a timing chain. being of automotive background myself, i bought it, and am planning on replacing the timing chain myself. has anyone here done this? and what special tips can you give me to get me through it a bit easier? any help you can provide is much appreciated.

Re: 95 2.3 timing chain

It's not a job for a novice, but it can be done. Don't try to cut corners and buy cheap parts, or decide not to change certain parts. Buy a quality timing set and all the tensioners, guides etc..., and while your in there, replace the water pump too. It's driven by the timing chain and is much easier while you already have it apart. Don't let it go too long, or you'll grenade the motor if that chain lets go.

Re: 95 2.3 timing chain

i am by no means a novice, so i dont think it will be much of a problem. i cranked it over for myself to hear yesterday, and it sounds almost as if its not getting fuel or spark. it cranks, but makes no unusual noises while doing so. i have to put my K10 back on the frame before im going to touch it though.
