easier: supercharger or turbo

which is easier to install and which would be easier (less ware and tare) on the motor. I want to turbo my 2.2 but thats a lot of stress on the stock motor right? If i were to supercharge the 2.2 what modifications would anybody reccomend? as well as turbo. (besides exhaust and fuel managment)

Re: easier: supercharger or turbo

Blowers are easier on the oil meaning that they do not have a bearing in the exhaust stream. But that is about all. A turbo is more efficent. Some blowers are basically the intake side of a turbo driven by the belt. These are fairly easy to install, you will still need to change your fuel injectors, and ECM programming at minimum. If you get into higher boost levels you will be changing a lot of internal parts like pistons, rods, and such. Check the Cars in General section. There is a Forced Induction forum where people with more current information will be better able to help you Good Luck

Well supercharging for the most part will always put more wear and tear on your engine. Its belt driven so it puts a lot of external stress on the engine. Turbocharging is all 'air-driven'. If you run at high boost levels, you may still stress the hell out of the internal components of the engine, but with controlled boost levels the stress doesnt compare to that of a turbo. Plus turbochargers only add power to the engine. With a supercharger you end up robbing 30-40 horsepower from the engine because of the restriction it causes to the crank, but the supercharger adds more on top of it.

Depends on if you want more low end torque, or high end. Turbo=high end (3000rpm-6000rpm), and supercharging=low end (1000rpm-3000rpm).

For your 2.2L....they have horrible low and high end, but worse off lower. If you plan on racing, I would turbocharge, but if you just want more all around power...supercharge it. Or just get a Z24. Ive had both, and the Z has SO MUCH MORE high end torque, and a very impressive amount of high end torque. 160 lb/ft compared to the 2.2Ls 120. and 150 hp compared to 115. Good luck whatever you do.

Re: easier: supercharger or turbo

Z24 is 155lbs Torque

But go with a supercharger for you car, turbos are nice, but with a small engine you wont be able to get a very big one unless you want a ton of lag. With a supercharger you get a really flat powr band, like instant power and holds steady all the way through the rpms.
