Speedometer swap in a '92?

Hi all

I recently grabbed a 110-MPH speedo from a 94 Blazer and was wondering if I could install it in place of my 92 S10's standard 85-MPH speedo without any problems? This is the standard gauge cluster.

They are both electronic, but I don't know if there's a certain calibration that affects the way they work or not. I'm hesitant to just go ahead and install it for fear that I'd fry some vital electronic component somewhere.

Anyone have words of wisdom?

you could hook a variable power supply to each and see the reading at a certain voltage. Make sure you start at a very low voltage.

There is no difference between the sensors for the mechanical guages and the electronic guages. If you replace i.e. temp, oil, fuel, they take the same senders. As for the speedo, you may have to change the VSS, not sure but you check at a parts store. The plug on the back should be the same. I plugged a spare one into a '91 and it lit up and when the engine was started, the tach even worked. Don't know about the speedo cause that is what was bad on the spare.

This all makes good sense, thanks. I do want to clarify, though, that this is NOT a digital dash, but the regular analog-style gauge setup. The speedo is electronic and does NOT have a speedometer cable.
I haven't considered it, but a VSS might be different in a 110-mph speedo application, but I don't see how or why since the engine computer reads from it the same way.
Would be nice to have a tachometer in this thing too, but all the S10 tachs I've seen have been used in a gauge set with a mechanical speedo.

92-94 gauges should be directly interchangeable with no problems whatsoever. although, all 89-93 clusters should technically be interchangeable, unless you have a digital cluster. no need to change any electronic equipment if your cluster uses the 18pin connector. the 34pin connector uses the same signals, but uses a different connector (obviously) but has some extra ground/power lines.
