Check engine light on 96 Camry
I have a 96 Camry that was built before the computer ports were made to be the same. I can't get it read by anyone because they say they don't have that connection. It is running fine and I tried taking the power off but the check engine light came back on. I tried the use the wire as the book said between the two connections but it would not work. No auto parts store has anything that will fit it for purchase. I hate to take it to any dealer just to read a code. Any suggestions?

Re: Check engine light on 96 Camry
Does your connector match either of the ones in this site?
http://www.troublecodes.net/Toyota/ Check under your hood to see if a sticker there identifies the type of connection you have so you can talk about it. Call a manufacturer of OBDII devices and ask them about the connection you have and see if they sell an adapter for your car. Then, all you have to buy is an adapter so common OBDII instruments will work with your system. |

Re: Check engine light on 96 Camry
You're welcome. I hope it works out. Your car should be OBDII compliant, but there is always the possibility it was made for a foreign market.
