87 camry charcoal canister hoses

Hi y'all,

Have an 87 camry with 154k on the counter.

The charcoal canister for the emissions systems has 3 hoses, the top 2 are fixed, but the one coming out from the bottom is not connected.

Does anyone know where that hose plugs into the engine.
Also when i went to fix my brakes those nuts at just brakes spilt brake fluid on the carcoal canister, and the paint from it seems to have eroded. Is it possible for the brake fluid to damage the emissions systems cause there is no noticeable difference in perormance, although i am in the process of checking the mileage the car is giving me. It used to give me about 25 to 30 mpg.

Also went to get an alignment and the asked me to change the cam bolt on the drivers side. I purchased the one they had , but it was a smaller guage than the one on the camry. I had it put in by my mechanic but after I got home after driving for about 5 miles , the cam bolt had failed and I found parts of the cam bolt near the front tire in the lot.
So I'm not sure if changing the cam bolt would help in the alignment, because I am afraid that it might fail again and I might get into a bad accident.

Letme know if there is any other solution. Thanks

Re: 87 camry charcoal canister hoses

For the hose issue, you should have a hose diagram fastened to the underside of the hood. This should show you were all the hoses connect for emissions purposes.

The brake fluid might damage the hoses.

About the bolt that you replaced. Get the correct part from Toyota and have it installed. Get another alignment if this bolt affects or holds the alignment.

Charcoal canister

The third hose from the bottom of the charcoal canister is open to atmosphere and is not connected to the engine. There are times when the canister will draw fresh air in through the bottom hose depending on fuel tank and engine conditions and is regulated by check valves. There is an air filter inside the canister for the fresh air.
