Investigating a 325i engine swap

If anyone knows, what is approximately the largest displacement engine that can be fit into the engine bay of a 1986 325e? (with some modification if needed)

Various performance parts manufacturers (alpina, hartge, etc) have used 3-series bmws as a base and put some ridiculous engines in them.

I'm looking to produce some kind of ridiculous power-weight ratio.

I'll check it out really quick.

In the meantime, think of how a 1986 325e with a full e30 m3 bodykit would look with a Roush 550hp v8 w/highrise induction sticking out of the hood.

If that wouldnt win the show, what would? =)
