Is it blown?

My amp just suddenly stop working, and right before I had volume pretty low so i was not bumping loud at all. All connections are perfect. When i turn the ignition on the red light will come on for a sec. then fade away n not work. Is the amp blown? it is also about a week old

Re: Is it blown?

turn off the car, disconnect the sub from the amp (just unhook the speaker wires from the amp), turn on the car and see what it does

if it does the same thing, check the fuses, namely the one in the power wire by the battery

if it goes green and stays that way, your sub might be blown

is there any chance you have a multimeter?

Re: Is it blown?

yes if the subs were blown it would do what you described, but so would a multitude of other things

as for the fuses, superficial inspection says nothing, the only way to be sure that they aren't the problem is to replace them. What style fuse is in your main power wire? Is it a flat fuse with a spade terminal on each end, or is it a fuse inside a glass tube with a metal condom on each end?

i disconnected the speaker wires, and the amp did the same thing. I have the kind in a clear tube with metal ends.

Re: Is it blown?

You can't really look for the problem, you have an AGU fuse, and they're known to just stop conducting sporadically. You have to replace it to see if it's the problem, I had AGU fuses in my last install and I had 3 of them die on me like that. They didn't blow, I think the part where the fuse connects to the metal cap just broke apart. AGUs are crappy fuses....

Re: Is it blown?

alright cool, but do these symptoms mean that the amp did not blow?

Re: Is it blown?

you mean that you disconnected the speaker wire and the amp stayed in protect? Well that means the subs aren't the problem, the only choices that leaves are
1 - something is wrong with the amp's power/ground/remote wiring
2 - the amp is fried

if the amp is fried, then you need to find what killed it so that it doesn't happen again

Re: Is it blown?

the red light will come on, along with the other blue lights that light up the speaker wire connections, but after a sec. they dim off. If the amp is fried, can it be fixed or do i need a new one?
