1st time BMW owner with questions.
Hello all. I am a 1st time BMW owner. I bought a 97 528I with 70K. Carfax was clean. Haven't driven it for about 1500 miles, I have discovered the following small probs:
1. Automatic Traction Control light came on. 2. Vibrations at 55 mph and higher. Tires rhread are still goo (Michelin MXV Plus) 3. Smell whenever AC is turned on 4. Bad AM reception 5. Maintenance light is down to 2 bars. What is the required maintenance? Thanks for all your help. |

Re: 1st time BMW owner with questions.
1. Not 100% sure on it so I dont wana give you wrong info.
2. Your wheels might need to be ballanced. 3. Take out the microfilters and spray some hairspray, perfume or what the dealer uses its called "frigi-fresh" smells like a cleaned bathroom but it fixes it. Also have the car running with the ac on whiel you spray in there. 4.Same as #1 5. When the yellow light comes on you know its time. Red light means go get it done asap. |

It sounds to me like maybe a balancing issue, but first a Question: I am not sure if it was an option in 97, but do you have the BMW "Sport Package"? 3. ? 4. ? 5. ? I do not know about your other four questions, (SEE ABOVE). I am also a new BMW owner at this forum, (2004 530i), and so far advice from members at this forum has saved me a ton of $$$! I belong to three other BMW forums on the www, but this one is the best one I have found so far. ![]() Presley348 [/quote]

Vibration at 55 and higher could be many things, but I'm willing to bet that your thrust arms needs new bushings, BMW made crappy 528 e39 suspension, very tempermento, and needs a special tool for almost every thing.
