first question you have to ask is which version of 4age there are many, the blue top with tvis is rated at 115 hp red top w/o tvis is rated at 140hp and silver top at 160, black top rated at 165. The main advantage to the red and blue top is there is more aftermarket support to them while the silver and black top has more hp out of the bag. The problem you have to look at is the motor mounts, the motor mounts may not be the same for the dx as I think it has a 7afe engine it. the seccond problem is the transmission as it probbaly wont bolt up, which means you have to get a front clip with transmission, this leads to having to have the ecu, wire harness, clutch cylinder, shifter and a clutch pedal. This is a lot of time and effort which brings me to the third point is the car worth 5000$ worth of parts and labor? But ebay is pretty good about having 4age engines, oh dont forget the super charged 4agze engine rated at 165hp.

heh ive worked on a 4afe, before you drop the the 4age in you may want to buy new open flowing valves, tvis restrics flow. that should be fairly easy to, putting new high comp pistons on the other hand isnt so much. The engine should bolt right in since how it was a 4a engine. but converting it to a manual is tricky but if u have a donar car u have the stuff. Still tricky, I would mount the clutch pedal in place and run the wire to cylender into place when u get the engine out and get the shifter into place. then put the engine in. hope you have good luck on that... you could put a turbo kit on it cause it doesnt have high comp pistons. Thats another 1200-2000 dollars though... Also you should get some hks cams, higher rpm and since ur doing manual you can do close to 9k rpms. cost another 600$ for the set of cams plus cam gear is 300$

completly understand about budget, i just thought of a BIG problem. you said the doner car was a sr5, that thing is rwd. the motor mounts and tranny wont work on the corolla... i know it suxs, unless u plan on spending alot of money making motor mounts and changing out teh rear axle thats a hella lot of work.

if then the dang thing will bolt right in, just take your time, if you rush it problems will occur, learned that the hardd way. also lable things in baggies when taking stuff out saves alot of trouble. make sure you have a 10 mm, 12mm and 14mm wrenches and socket driver. other than that is should swap just fine. id start with taking the wire harness and getting it in place first when u get the old engine out.
