Nissan Canada to USA warranty
If you have a Canadian Xterra and move to the US, your warranty does not carry over to Nissan-USA. But, you can switch you VIN number to the NissanUSA service computers (which your dealer checks when in for service). You need a copy of your sales agreement and a copy of your registration available for faxing. Then contact Nissan Customer Affairs 1-800-Nissan1.

I finally got confirmation a week or so ago that my warranty is transferred. Apparently it is not guaranteed to transfer, but has to go through some comitte. The woman said it falls under their "good will" policy (or whatever they call those extra funds they give shops to do free non-warranty work).

Did you *buy* your Xterra in Canada??? Then bring it in US??? I bought my Canadian Xterra in US from a dealer. They offered a waranty, but only good for their shop. I declined. I find now that the nearest Canadian Nissan dealer is 2 - 3 hours drive away...*If* they accept me for Canadian warranty work (not guaranteed)... |

I got through to Nissan USA Customer Affairs (Mike) and explained what Schludwiller outlined above... He looked up my VIN, told me it was not in his database [duh], and consulted a higher authority...He came back on, took my name, address, etc, and also my preferred dealer for service...Mike told me my VIN should be added to the dealers database, and that he would call the dealer later today to confirm (and call me, too)...He then assigned me a file number if the VIN didn't show up... No faxing of anything, no real checking of anything...And the part about "my preferred dealer" sounds like I'm only good at this one dealer (?)... This doesn't sound right... "Mike" also told me, that based on my VIN number, there are *NO* recalls pertaining to my Xterra... *********************************************** On an related matter, I received a post card from "First National Warranty" in Fort Lauderdale FL about my Nissan warranty...Seems the dealers 3-year warranty is about to run out, and do I want to extend it another 5 years...I explained the warranty hassles I was getting here, and the gentlemen on the other end said he'd check into it and get back to me... ...???...Since I haven't been able to get one dealer to even acknowledge my Xterra even exists, it seems to me this is probably not a great idea... |
