Re: AC doesnt work...

I wouldnt think it would affect the performance ,and if something does u can always take the ac belt off ( I am pretty sure about that)

Re: AC doesnt work...

as long as you dont have a/c shooting out into the atmosphere your straight. I dont have a/c period, and it never affected my engine. I still have some a/c lines but mine doesnt work either, my engine runs better without it.

Re: AC doesnt work...

im not actually sure how much it helps out, maybe once I get a custom line job and my A/C working again, ill dyno it once without the a/c on, and once with it on. But with my belt off I know it help with the pulley situation it has no tention. Im sure if you drive your car with your a/c on and then off you could tell a difference.

Re: AC doesnt work...

you can tell quite a bit of difference... I believe the general rule is that newer cars lose 7 HP when the AC is on, older cars lose 17. You WILL notice a diff with it on, however simply having an AC connected to the car but not turned on will not affect performance at all. Removing the AC completely can save you maybe 30-40 lbs overall if you are looking to do that, as far as the pulley situation, the difference in efficiency is really negligible. I have had my belt both on and off, for a few months for each. No difference

Re: AC doesnt work...

a/c is ran off a belt form the crank, if the belt is off the crank spins faster because it wont have to work harder to spin that extra belt, so with the belt on u'll have less horse power, i took the a/c belt, compressor, and condenser off my bros integra, he felt a differance

Re: AC doesnt work...

I have a 91 acura integra and the ac doesn't work should i just remove everything or try to fix it.
I live in Phoenix, AZ and its always HOT.
Would that also limit the chances of me selling my car?

well I have a dyno chart in front of me for a 1995 civic dx with a D15B 1.5L single cam non-vtec engine. it was tested with A/C and headlights off at 100.8 hp cold, and 100.6 hot. with the headlights on and the AC on it ran 99.2 hp, so on this civic they gained about 1.5 hp by shutting off A/C and turning off headlights.

I don't know where that one kid found the 17 hp loss for old cars and 7hp loss for new ones thing but it is complete BS.

You can bring it to an A/C shop and let them check it out for ya (usually not too expensive). They'll tell you what's wrong and give you an estimate for repairs (I recommend a conversion to R134a as well). Then you make your descision. Working A/C will increase the value of your car especially in AZ! GL
