Lightbulb mod engine on a 96 corolla dx auto?

Hey guys, my mom bought a new rav-4 and gave me her old 96 corolla dx. I'm planning on having it for some time because I can't afford a different car (insurance is gonna be high enuff for me since im 16). But anyway, I want to give it a bit more hp. I dont know how much HP it has stock, but I want to add some more, but since its a auto I can't really add too much ryte? What parts can i get for an auto, how much would it cost and how much hp would it add?

Re: mod engine on a 96 corolla dx auto?

just get some basic upgrades for now...i.e. intake(short ram or cold air)60-80 bucks depending on brand...headers 100-180 also depending on brand...exhaust 150-200...and that i just basic stuff...u can always swap out ur auto tranny to a manuel...costs alot though...and ur 96 has about 110 hp stock

Re: mod engine on a 96 corolla dx auto?

pretty much u can add all those mods with ur 1k...and all that stuff u can probably sqeeze about 40-60 hps out of that(very rough estimate)and ur tranny swap...depending on what kind u get and where u get it from...u can get a pretty good used celica 6 speed tranny for about maybe 1-2 grand...and if u can get hook ups to get it installed it shouldnt run that much...

hey my boy has a 95 auto and we were looking into swaping the tranny but every were we went its was from 1700 to 2200 so i dont think its worth it. but he got a short ram intake (no cold air intakes for 93-97 rollas) for $45 AEM which is a good brand, a set of headers for $165 dont know what brand, and a full exhaust system for $300 plus instalation. and you would still have enough money left over to put a nice system.

Re: mod engine on a 96 corolla dx auto?

like 1988lude said, OBX discontinued their CAI for our cars, but short ram works fine. i have I/H/E on my car. probably only 15-25 more HP (and that's generous), but it does give a little extra kick when you step on the gas.

got the header and exhaust from www.ssautochrome.com and SRI from streetbeatcustoms.com

you could probably find the intake cheaper (Ractive...it's a pretty popular brand) somewhere else, but street beat had the cheapest 2 day shipping so i went with them.

probably isn't worth the tranny swap either. as tempting as it is to race a lot, people won't pay much attention to you in the Rolla, but when you do, if you put the gas down enough, you'll redline it which gives a pretty good boost (with the stuff on my car, the thing seems to really take off around 3500 rpms)

yea and if your good enogh u can shift with auto tranny u just have to know what ur doing if not u could mess it up. i raced my boys 95rolla with air intake headers and full exhaust with my 04rolla stock and he kept up with me the hole time. which made me think i should really get to work on my car. lol

its tough to figure out how to manual shift an auto...i tried but you're probably better off just letting the auto do what it was designed to do

if you choose to leave it at auto though, don't drive it as a manual, as your 1st gear will start to rev high even when you're not going at WOT.....you could also go for suspension mods to make the ride a little bit better, and the tires will greatly affect the car's handling abilities, because believe me when i say this, the Stock tires squeal when i'm taking a turn at 30 mph and i do notice some body roll when i take the turn.
