225s on 6.5 wheel?

got me some 16x6.5 as my daily driver wheels, ill be getting a set of 18s sometime next summer, winter is coming up and im looking for some tires. Im thinking about doing 225/50 16 on my 16x6.5 i dont know if thats to wide to fit on a 6.5 Im sure it will fit with no problem but will it stick out to far from the wheel itself? Anyone have any pictures with 225s on 6.5 wheels? so i can atleast get an idea what it would look like? what do you dudes suggest? 225s or 215s thanks

Re: 225s on 6.5 wheel?

I dont know of a tireshop that would do that. It is hard enough to mount 50 series tires anyway. I think 205 should be good and wide. It really screws with your handling when your tires are too wide for your rims. I put 245s on a 7.5 inch rim and it wiggled when I pushed on my car.

maybe i don't understand what kind of tires you want, but if i do then here's the deal with winter tires compared to summer tires.

if you want good traction in snow, you need the narrowest tires you can find. the idea is that you get the least amount of surface contact on your tread so that more weight is put on less area. that might not be the best way to explain it but think of standing on ice on skates compared to blocks 2 inches wide strapped to your feet. which one will give you more stability for accelerating, turning and stopping? hopefully you understand the physics of it.. and if that WASN'T your problem, then i may have solved it for somebody else! for summer tires, they'll stick to the ground anyways so the more contact with the ground they have, the more control the driver has.
hopefully that makes sense to you!

6.5 are for 205's. i've seen my friend with a base model that orignally is suppose to have 195's on them and he puts 225s on them. those things look like ballons. it just looked odd. and it might help him on take off cause the sidewalls might scrunch up alittle but his cornering probrably suffered more.
