97 Wrangler Low RPMs

I have a 97 Jeep Wrangler, 4 cyl. At full throttle I'm only pushing 3000 RPMs. It has no power and it's only going 35 mph. It has a bad CAT, could this be the cause?

Re: Low RPMs

It is a likely cause.

I got a good deal on a dakota that was like that. No speed and wouldn't pull it's way out of a wet paper bag.

Changed the cat and what a difference.

The honeycombe was broken up and would plug it off at times and be free running at other times.

Change out the cat. should beable to find one at a parts store for a better price than the dealer will sell for. or check the internet.

There has been discussions on the grand cherokee board about cats and where to get them on the net.

Thanks a bunch. I figured that is what it was but wanted to make sure I didn't burn a piston or something.
