Selling a Very nice 87 GT Fiero, What is it worth?
I'm not sure the best way to sell this, it is very nice. I am located in Quincy, IL. I'd like to know what it is worth?
List of things wrong: It has one head light motor not working, it makes noise though. Air blows, but is warm. The two back side glass have a few small cracks. Parking brake doesn't work too good. Area in front has the paint chipped, about the size of a baseball. Valve guides may need replacing. May have a small exaust leak. 122,000 miles. Right: Very nice interior and exterior. 5 sp. Manual. Short throw, with crome knob Nice tires and rims. Grant wood steering wheel. Excellent memphis speakers. Just put in professionally about 3 weeks ago. Check out the pics, they are great. http://www.tlimages.com/images/users/2834/fiero1.jpg http://www.tlimages.com/images/users/2834/fiero5.jpg http://www.tlimages.com/images/users/2834/fiero4.jpg http://www.tlimages.com/images/users/2834/fiero3.jpg http://www.tlimages.com/images/users/2834/fiero2.jpg |

Re: Selling a Very nice 87 GT Fiero, What is it worth?
If there isn't any underbody rust, I'd have to take a stab at it and say $1500(since the engine has issues and it's over 100,000 miles). That number gets lower depending on how many steering and suspension components are still original. If it needs shocks, struts, tie rods, toe rods, ball joints, etc You're probably looking at $600 on the absolute bottom end.

Wanted to buy: 86-88 Fiero GT, 5 speed, fixer-upper. Blown motor, no motor? No problem! Rusty unibodies need not apply. 74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!! 3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L) Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: Selling a Very nice 87 GT Fiero, What is it worth?
wow....600!?!? i'd love to find a deal like that...First of all, are you positive it's an 87 and not an 88? If that's the original paint, i'd say it's an 88.,but assuming that it is an 87... The Mr. Mike's? leather seats and center console are nice, that'll add about 300 to the price if they are in nice condition. The 5 speed Getrag transmission also adds to the value. I like the rims, but a lot of people want the originals...don't really think this hurts the value though, since you can get a nice set of originals for almost what those on the car are worth. Unfortunately the steering wheel and the speakers don't help the cars value. But i'd still say $2200 wouldn't be too high to ask.

Re: Selling a Very nice 87 GT Fiero, What is it worth?
Engine, drivetrain, steering and suspension problems deduct a lot more from a car's value then poor body and interior. Freshen up the engine and make sure it rides and steers right and that easily could be a $4000 car - in the right market at auction it could see even higher. Regardless of what it looks like, if the thought in the buyer's head is "Dude, I have to put more money into this before I can drive it" you just aren't going to see it's true value. Unless of course you find a buyer that knows nothing (mechanical) about cars, as they'll pay just about anything for a shiny paint job.

Thanks guys.
Do you think I should Fix the valve guides, lights, and air fixed before selling it then, or would that just be more money wasted? |

Re: Selling a Very nice 87 GT Fiero, What is it worth?
The headlight that won't go up but makes noise - check to see if the pitman arm has fallen off the motor shaft. If so, all you need to keep it on is a small e clip. (the old one's worn out and probably lost) You can buy an assortment for a couple bucks at any auto parts store.
Engine work can get expensive, if your plan is to sell the car you may want to save time and money and pop in a complete used engine that's been tested and guaranteed to be a good runner. Here is one source: http://www.kickhill.com/mechelec.html Old A/C systems are expensive to fix. Retrofits to a newer system can be as low as $350 installed. If you think you can get the money back from the sale, a retrofit is a smarter idea.
