96 Passport Change to Mobil 1
It's probably been asked before, but here goes anyway.
96 Passport with 118K on it. 3.2 V6 Auto. With the tapping on startup until warmed up and oil circulated. I've read pros and cons on going to Synthetic to eliminate/minimize the valve tapping. The truck to this point has used Mobile dino oil 10/30 for the most part, changed every 3K and filter. Also uses about 1/2 to 1 Qt oil every 3k. So is going synthetic going to help, or just spring some leaks. Thanks for the opinions. |

Will mobil1 stop the valve train noise? Nahh. Probably not. Mobil1 wont *cause* leaks, but will continue to leak thru exising leaks rather nicely. I wouldn't change at this point (118K miles) it's really only worth it if you want to extend your drain intervals (not recommeded with this engine). Keep in mind that cheapie oil filters can cause startup noise. If the filter's anti drain back valve doesn't work (common on some cheap filters), it will take a few seconds for the filter to prime/fill with oil on startup, usually causing valvetrain noise.
G/luck Joel
