Re: oil weight

5w20 oil used in these motors is a synthetic blend and is good in all temp conditions

Re: oil weight

Make sure you stay with the 5W20. When I worked for the Ford dealer, we had alot of cars coming in saying they were running rough right after they had the oil changed. Turns out they were going to the quick lubeand having the wrong weight of oil being put in. The bearing tolerances on these vehicles is alot closer. The thinner oil allows for proper lubrication. Thicker oil just wont do the job.

Hope this helps

Re: oil weight

It could, but I would check out your EGR valve. They gunk up pretty quickly especially if you are burning oil.

Also, invest in a code reader, you can pick one up ay your local parts house. They run about $30.00 or so and are worth their weight in gold. With a code reader you can pin point your problems in about 10 minutes or less

Hope this helps.

Re: oil weight

Hey I have an 86 GM, but I have a slow oil leak (not sure from where, I put it in the shop and they claim to have fixed it, but it still leaks), anyway, I have been running 10W 40 in it, I figure since it's so hot here in mississippi, this might slow down the oil leak with the thicker oil. This won't hurt my car will it? Also there is some kind of whitish gunk where I put my oil in, how can I get rid of that?

Re: oil weight

The white gunk in your cap and fill area can be a sign of a blown head gasket. When the engine is cold , check the radiator fluid, if it is oily its a good bet you have a blown head gasket. Also does the oil look milky to you? Its also another sign. However, if the car is driven in very cold climates, ie like mine in Wisconsin, winter temps can cause the water to condense in the fill tube causing the white gunk. When the weather warms up, it should burn off. Good luck

Re: oil weight

Thanks for the great news, fortunately though, my oil does not look milky and the radiator fluid isnt very "oily" looking. But just to be sure would there be any other symptoms I should look for? There is this type of gunk in my power steering fill canister also.
