Question 2001 chevy tahoe stalling in low speeds???

I have been having stalling problems with my 2001 chevy tahoe LT. It has just got worst, before it would stall maybe once every three weeks, then it was once a week, now it just got worst it does it everyday, just this morning on the way to work it stalled three times. It only does it in low speeds, like this morning i was in traffic and when you let go of the gas pedal the truck shakes and turns off. The electrical stays on like the radio and lights, but when it stalls i do not get a message in the message center, the only thing that shows up is the battery light. after it stalls it starts back up right away, but today it did something weird, after it stalled the second time and i started it, my fuel showed low fuel it was on empty even though it had gas, then it stalled again, and it started back up and the gas gauge went back to normal. it also does it alot when i'm parking. very weird, i am so fraustrated with this truck, you would think a truck this new would do things like that. i have read other forums stating to change the crank shaft sensor????? i have already changed my fuel filter. please help.

if this problem only happens when your foot is off the gas pedal, I would recommend you clean the throttle body first.

With the engine OFF
Remove the duct from the air filter box to the throttle body...spray some choke cleaner into the throttle body and scrub the housing and blade with a soft tooth brush..spray again and wipe clean.

There are some GM TSB's on this concern also

Depending on your milage, I might also think about doing your fule filter. Could be that when the vehicle is at speed is it sucking it through, how ever at idle it may not have enough emph to do it.

Just and idea.

Good thought, but this system does not "suck" gas, the fuel pump pushes fuel through the rail..a clogged fuel filter will cause a problem during high demand (acceleration)

Just wondering if this helped your problem. My wife's '01 LT is experiencing the same problem along with a hesitation at idle. It has just started.....only stalled once while parking. I just got back from running to the store and the hesitation at idle happened to me. I asked her about it and that's when I found it had stalled once.

I'll do a search for the TSBs. Any site better than the others?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 2001 chevy tahoe stalling in low speeds???

Anyone find any solutions to there problem? My wife's 2000 LS Tahoe has the same problem. It's been getting worse and worse.
I had the same thing happen with the low fuel light coming on even though I had 1/4 of gas.

Re: Re: 2001 chevy tahoe stalling in low speeds???

For future readers looking for a possible solution.
As mentioned by GMMerlin, thanks, cleaning the throttle body solved the problem.
I have a 2000 Tahoe(new body style). The throttle is electronic no cables. There is no IAC (idle air control) that I could see. So, my conclusion.. since the throttle is electronic it can be control by the PCM and simulates the IAC to maintain a set idle. The build-up on the the throttle body confuses the PCM causing an erratic idle and stalling. After cleaning the throttle body the idle was solid no irratic idle.

Same here. Cleaned the TB and the idle went back to rock-solid steady.

Re: 2001 chevy tahoe stalling in low speeds???

Selman Chevy in Orange, Ca recommends cleanning the throttle body every 30,000 miles(aprox $45 at dealer) if you can't do so on your own. A fuel additive to the gas tank on occasion may help prevent frequency.

Thank You Merlin. I didn't want to spend 200 to 300 dollars to have stalling problem fixed at dealer. Thanks to you I spent $1.06 on carb cleaner, cleaned throttle body, and have corrected stalling.
