How bad is insurance?

Something I’ve been concerned about is the insurance costs and how much they may increase if I get a Prelude. Most likely the car will be listed as my father’s daily driver to get cost down for now, but in a few years it will be on my name. How bad is insurance compared with vehicles such as Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds (not that I’m considering one of those, it’s just that I know those cars tend to be high). It is a 4 cylinder none turbo so I'm assuming that helps?

Thanks!

Re: How bad is insurance?

Doesn't matter, it's not that bad. It'll be much less than a Mustang, Camaro, or Firebird. The two things that make insurance costs high are forced induction and performance V8's. I pay about $1500 a year on my 94 vtec, i'm a 19 year old male, no points or anything on my lisence. That's also without collision, just for liability.

Re: How bad is insurance?

Well it depends what you have. I don't have collateral (fire, theft, and glass) or collision. I only have liability. I know Geico was more expensive for me, but I'm actually not positive who I'm with. I'm on my parents policy, but I'm the primary driver. If I remember I'll ask what insurance provider I have and get back to you.

Keep your record clean, stay in school and study - get good grades. These will all help drive your costs down. Most, if not all, insurance companies give good discounts to people who are less of a risk. Keep that in mind.

Well, my father called and got some numbers.

I guess a 00' Prelude would cost $1,400-1,500 every six months under my name.

He asked about 4 cars, and while all of them were in the same ballpark, the cost from most expensive to least was:

02' V6 Mustang
00' Prelude
02' SVT Focus
02' Civic Si

I know if he put himself as the main driver, a 51-year-old with very few points on his record, the cost would go down substantially.
