Off or on road for beginner?

I'm just wondering is it better for a first time buyer to get an off or on road car? I am looking to buy my first rc car around early september so I don't know which would be better for me in terms of maintaining, handling and so on. I'm only interestd in electric rc cars as I'm a beginner and I'm in England so I can't really compare my budget. I do live next to a big field which I think would be great for something like a tamiya baja champ but there are some clubs near me for racing on road cars. As you can see I'm really confused and any help would be appreciated.

I guess it really depends on what you plan to do. If you want to race, get the on road since that's the only racing in your area. Just make sure to get a car the falls into the classes they race. Don't get an open wheeled car or pan car, if they only race touring cars.

If you just want to bash, then I'd go with an off road car, because it gives more options on where to run. You may want consider stadium trucks and monster trucks if you plan to run in a field. Although buggies are off road, they really are best suited for groomed tracks.

it really doesn't matter which you start into, you could go into sort of both by getting a rally car, but when i started RC i started with stadium trucks, now on road electriks is almost all i buy.

Thanks. I have just won a tl01 on ebay! I'll post a picture of what I've won. Unfortunatly I can't get the actual picture but I'll post a picture from the tamiya website. Everything is included to get started. Shell is Bosch Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI.

Here's the picture the seller left. (It does include a charger but it is not pictured here.) Yes I do know it should be in rc gallery but I don't think many people will care. Shell is a bit scratched and cracked but I can replace it.

Here is what the seller put as the info.

Quote:
Alfa Romeo 155V6 Ti, Main sponsor is Bosch. Built 4 years ago, hardly used, in top condition with a few scratches and cracks to the bodyshell (nothing serious), cost £160 brand new in kit form. Comes with full radio kit and handset - Acoms Techniplus. As well as 1 NiCd battery and the charger which cost £40. An Excellant starter or introduction to remote control cars, a complete package!
I might need to buy an extra battery and when I'm ready I'll upgrade it with a 540 sport tuned motor, electronic speed controller, foam front bumper, and metal bearings. (Instead of the standard plastic ones.) If I can afford it!

Yep...that radio is horrible. Spend the money you save on a pistol grip radio and some upgrades. Other than that, great buy.

Don't mean any disrespect but what's bad about the radio gear. (For future reference.)

Nothing really "bad" about your radion gear. It's just that most people (at least here in the U.S) use pistol grip radios. It's really just a preference but I think pistol grip is easier to use. If your comfortable driving with a 2 stick radio, I woudn't worry about it then.

Re: Off or on road for beginner?

Somethign Futaba for a good mix of value and price, maybe the 2PH or the 2PL, the 2PL is a little more advanced
