Preping for turbo
ok so I finally decided to turbo my ka and just wanted a few opnions from some of you. I have a 92 240 with the stock ka no mods yet.. but I keep getting mixed responses on whether or not I need to get a forged bottom end, connectiong rods and pistons, or if it'll be safe to run 5-7 psi on the stock internals. For the time being I plan on running a rebuilt t25 from a sr, sr SMIC, and some sort of BOV just haven't decided yet. so really my question is what would you do in terms of reliability should I rebuild it so when I can afford a better turbo I don't have to worry about it. or just go ahead and "throw" the turbo on and pray I don't break something or everything and then do the rebuild when I can afford it?

#1 how many miles are on the engine and does it appear to be in good condition?
#2 get a compression test on all 4 cylinders and make sure they are within spec

Re: Preping for turbo
Stock bottom end is good up to around 10-12 psi just as long as it is in good condition. Do a compression test.

Re: Preping for turbo
well I did a compression test on it yesterday came out low 130-140 on all of them, but it wasn't done right becasue I forgot to release the fuel pressure...lol oh well I'll try to get another one today. oh and there are 134xxx miles on it

Re: Preping for turbo
ahahahahahaha. Forgot to release the fuel pressure. Yea you need to do that. Make sure to hold the throttle open as well and disconnect the coil wire from the distributor. Mine has 132k on it and came out 160-165.

yea I did that but didn't even think about the fuel pressure lol.. it's all good though I'll get it done a little later today..
nissanfanatic what kind of turbo setup are you planing on running and did/are you going to rebuild your engine first or when you feel the need for more boost? |

Re: Preping for turbo
My setup is:
Garrett T04B .60ar compressor/.96ar turbine (hopefully I can find a smaller one soon) Revhard manifold Turbonetics 35mm evolution wastegate Greddy Type-S blow off valve Vortech FMU (not for long) Walbro 255lph Import-Autoperformance oil lines Shitloads of fittings, piping, and hoses from Ace Hardware As you can see, there are a few things I am going to change. As for the engine rebuild, I feel the engine is still very strong and will handle the upgrade pretty well. What I plan on doing is rebuilding an engine on the side with a set of forged pistons. Rods are good up to 20psi or more.

Re: Preping for turbo
yea a second engine was my other option too but I think it will set me back too far for now, so after I do the compression test correctly. I'll decide whether or not I need to rebuild it or just get the turbo setup on then worry about the rebuild...Thank you for your help and advice
