Temp light problems

I recently renovated the coolant system on my 1987 Buick Regal 3.8L (new hoses, temp sensor, thermostat, and cleaned out radiator). Once I got everything put back together and started the car, the "idiot light" on the dash for engine temperature came on. After some diagnostics, I found that the car heats up properly and runs at proper temperature, but the light still flickers. That led me to believe it was a short in the wire some where or a bad temp sensor. But when I checked I found no damaged wires the new temp sensor was good and the light flickers even when the wires to/from the sensor are disconnected. Here is where things get really weird. There is a fuel metering device on the carburetor which makes a clicking noise whenever the key is in the on position (especially noticeable when key is on and engine is not running) and the light on the dash flashes in time with the clicking. When the lead wires to the electronic control on the carburetor are disconnected, the temp light stops flickering. This is where I desperately need some help. I have done all the diagnostics I can think of, and there are no error codes and the diagnostic tool that hooks into the computer shows no problems. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for taking time to read my post.
