REAR rotors shot at only 42k?????
Took my '01 hoe with 42k in to have the brakes looked at.
The REAR rotors were worn down to NOTHING; as in paper thin. The mechanic said I would have wrecked any day. The FRONT pads look brand new. WTF? The only explanation the mechanic had for this is that the distribution hoses are reversed. Are there any possible other reasons the rear would wear out much MUCH faster than the front? Do I have any recourse with the dealer even though the warranty is up? I mean SOMETHING is certainly not right!! |

Re: REAR rotors shot at only 42k?????
Just get a pair of "Eradispeed" rotors from Baer, and be done with it. No more stupid dealer answers.
I believe "Thunder Racing" or "Tbyrne" sells them. Maybe the mechanics brain is miswired to his di%k. |

Rear brakes
My wifes '01 Suburban failed inspection due to bad emergency brakes. They wouldn't hold, so off to the dealer we go. They replaced the rear rotors and pads saying they were worn out! Couldn't understand how you can wear out E-brakes but they said that they kinda "float" in the rear rotor. Apparently, they got into a groove and never went back to their spot and just "rubbed" away. I said whatever, the warranty took care of it.
Just for kicks I had my '02 Tahoe looked at and you guessed it, same thing. Don't know whats the right/wrong answer, but, get it checked - the E-brake wouldn't hold on either! |

I have rear rotor problems 2x. GM paid for it the second time -- new brake drums rusted in less than a year -- destroying the emergency brake, one caliper and the disc brake pads as well. The problem is the rear drum is made of a metal that rusts prematurely. The rust causes the emergency brakes to wear and malfunction. Since the disc brake rotor is built onto the inside edge of the drum, it also affects the disc brakes, calipers, etc. I had cracked disc brake pads because of this.
This defect also causes the e-brakes to drag when you drive, making a rubbing sound. You have to stop the caar, reset the brake once or twice to stop the noise. NB: When the mechanic pointed out the rust, and asked me if I back my truck into lakes in order to launch boats, I almost lost it. I don't own a boat. Luckily the manager was there and contacted GM. This sounds like a "secret warranty". Another issue: Has anyone had any issues with front and rear drive gears. Apparently the Auto 4WD feature is not very functional, and wears the gears, causing them to whine, loudly. GM covered a full replacement two years ago (post warranty), Guess what -- the front end is starting to make the same noise again. I'm getting sick of the defects -- getting a Toyota SUV next. They're bullet proof. Report |
