JVC HU Swap, good deal?

I'v been running a JVC KD-S30 (bottom of the line almost) head unit in my civic for a few months and really like it. A buddy of mine has the JVC KD-LH1100 that has uber better features, front and rear rca's, animated display/color shifting. But he was doing something and messed up the speaker outputs on it and he braught it over to my shop and we messed with it and took it apart and a little chip in it is fryed, but the RCAs work perfect. He doesnt have the money to buy an amp to run his stuff off of so he offered to trade me for my head unit (lower product line) for his (higher but no speaker outputs only RCA). I think that I'm going to take his offer sence I'm fixing to buy a 4 channel amp anyway and will not need the speaker outputs. What do yall think? Is it a good deal? He paid $380 for his and I paid $150 for mine. Both about three months ago. I'm pretty sure I'm going to trade, just wanted to hear some oppinions first.

Yeah, I'd say go for it if you're getting a seperate amp, but personally, I'm not a big fan of JVC. But hey, its free and it doesn't have something you don't need anyway, right?

Re: JVC HU Swap, good deal?

well I traded them, accually had the 1100 in my car for a few days. Was testing a differnt amp today for a buddy of mine and my car wouldnt start... turned out the battery was dead as shit so I took one off another car I have and put it on and started up and everything. Then We went to mess with the cd player and finish putting it in and the side of it was so hot it would burn you (where the heat sink is at) and it hadent even been playing in over a day. Something is shorting out or something making it get really hot and drain the battery even when the car is turned off. anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Re: JVC HU Swap, good deal?

well I took it appart, and cut the chip off that was overheating. Got it plugged in right now, everything is running great, just no speaker channels as before. Guess it was part of the internal amp or something. RCA's work great and stuff and theres not a chip there to get hot and drain power anymore so I guess its all good...
