Shifting in/out 4WD

I have a 93 jeep grand cherokee. When i shift into 4wd it will not shift back into 2wd. It is a manual shifter. Sometimes after vigorous pushing it will go back in, but this time it has not worked. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

i assume its a 242 t-case and that the lever actually moves but 4wd wont disengage.check the air in the tires.and i assume that it has 4 identical tires because if not it sticks in 4wd.

JGC's are funny about shifting between 4hi/lo and 2wd. it works best (from 4whlxxxxx) if you slow to about 8mph, let off the gas, then shove it into the proper gear. sometimes, if you turn the vehicle off (while stopped) you can shift it then.
