low speed squeal-frt tires
Your first response is alignment I'm sure. It was aligned 12 mos ago at dealership--apparently these 00's are notoriously difficult to get straight but........
This trouble only started a month or so ago. Tire pressure is normal @ 33psi and the rubber only has 25000 km. It occurs on both sides during slow speed turns like when you're leaving parking lot. I might take it in for another alignment but I'm worried that there might be issues with transfer case or frt diff. Any experiences?2000 JGC Laredo-Quadra-drive II.................. |

Re: low speed squeal-frt tires
i would replace front diff fluid with fluid containing LSD friction modifier, or add the LSD additive yourself with new fluid, sounds like the same thing that's going on with my rear end. it's tire noise when the vehicle is moving correct? i've heard of a few people having PS issues, other than that, maybe xj31 knows of any other issues.

Re: low speed squeal-frt tires
None of the factory front diffs come equiped with limited slip that I know of. Some of what you describe is expected but there may be a factor from the rear limited slip and a fluid change and some additive there could help.
Temperature is a factor in the viscous coupler operation. Using a synthetic ATF will help reduce the normal operating temp and limit the conditions where the coupler engages to situations where it is actually needed. Also extending its usefull life. JD |

Re: low speed squeal-frt tires
is there unusual tire wear assosiated? are you running low profile tires? or tires that have short sidewalls. my thought is that it may be normal for the tire you are using. Is there any tendency for it to pull one way or another? when the car is driving true and straight is there noticeable toe in (tires noticably closer at the front of the tire)?

low speed squeal
If its OEM tires and they are Wrangler ST, don't worry about it then,
those are the worst tires that were ever created by GY. I have them on my WJ '01 and they started to squeal at about 15ooo. I've read lot's of postings about those tires and pretty much everyone agrees that they are just a pisces of crap. Reason for that squeling is because outher side of the tire wears out faster then inner and it is has nothing to do with allignment or the way you drive, they just do. I would like to replace them with something different, but they got only 250o0 miles on it and I am too cheap just to traw them away. LOL |

Re: low speed squeal-frt tires
Jeep calls for LSD additive for vehicles with Quadra-Drive for both diffs, Front and Rear.

Re: low speed squeal-frt tires
Excellent thoughts folks! For those of you refering to the tires--maybe wear related; interestingly enough they are Goodyear Wrangler ST's--So far I'm with ckabka3a! I am however due for transfer and diff fluid changes and will only use OEM recomendations I promise.
I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the advice all. |
