4.8 VS 5.3 GOOD and the BAD

Ok Guys give me your thoughts.
On this I'm looking at the o4s

>??
I was hearing alot about the piston slap Issue
And wondering if the problem shows up more in the 5.3>??

Also I have read on here some folks do not have it
Got me to thinking the DIFF could be 4.8 5.3>?

Also buld sheet
Would be interesting to know if your truck has the slap
It should say where it is made at.

And the ones that do not should also say this .

Just wondering out loud if maybe from place to place
they could be doing something DIFF.
Or using Diff brand parts.???

I know a lot of ?s but something to think about//
Thanks Nave

Re: 4.8 VS 5.3 GOOD and the BAD

I have an 04 5.3L with 6800 kms (4000 mi) on it and have no sign of slap....yet...I have trailered with it for approx 200 miles as well.

I also have babied it with regards to oil changes. I am on my third oil change currently using dino oil and plan makin the switch to synth on the next one.

2004 Silverado with 4.8 and auto tranny. 4x4. Approaching 4,000 miles with 3 oil changes so far.

No sign of piston slap. No obvious defects yet. Fingers crossed. Unsure where engine was built.

Re: 4.8 VS 5.3 GOOD and the BAD

i have a 99 5.3 and have had the slap for the past 3 years. change my oil every 3 thousand miles and really glad to say no major problems.( knock on wood) i have 110,600 miles on it and still have the same brakes. i bought a set of brake pads to change them at 100,000 mile and when i started pulling them off i found out i still have a good 60,000 miles off pads left to go. i'm not kidding, i heard these ceramic pads where good for a 100,000 miles but this is crazy. since 99 i have driven from tx to oregon, california, utah, idaho, colorado, arizona, new mexico, kansas, oklahoma, lousianna, mississippi, alaba ma,florida and back, i can't believe it. i have flushed the trans. fluid, new tires, changed the plugs at 100,00 miles with platinum plugs which is what came in them and is reccomended, changed fuel filter at 80,000 miles, i think it's time to flush the radiator, have not done that yet, oh yeah new plug wires with new plugs. well i don't know what else to say but if you have any question just ask.

Re: 4.8 VS 5.3 GOOD and the BAD

i forgot to mention i had to replace the window regulator about two months ago. no problem with that either. waited 3 days for the part to come in (saved $150 + tax) order it online. dealer wanted $250 + tax. oh yeah and labor. it took me roughly 20 to 30 minutes to do it myself.
