Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
Whats everyones oppinions on putting motor from a differnt company into a honda? I'm normally a purist, but I'v got a bad itching to put a GM 3800 series III into a 4th gen. That 280hp would a nice kick in the nuts for a 4th gen.

Re: Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
of course people would want to do it, but the cost of custimization from one brand of car to another would in no way justify the resulting vehicle.
i would love to put the Lingenfelter 7.0L Corvette motor in my crx, if it can run a 1.97 0-60 in a vette, imagine the outcome in a car a fraction of the weight.

Re: Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
I think there are so many different motors made by Honda that it's just wrong to put a different companies motor in one. A ton of D's, ZC's, B's, H's, F's, K's, hell even C's. but hey if someone wants to ruin a perfectly good car by putting an american motor in it (
j/k) then by all means go ahead it's not my $. But personally I'd rather see something like what Stephan Papadakis did and put a NSX motor in a Civic.

Yeah, Thats what my idea originally started out with was the nsx v6, but then dwendled down to 3800 v6 due to cost. Either way I wouldnt do it will I finish this civic first.

I say go for it. I have seen a 4G63T put in a 5th gen civic... and that thing was nuts.
I say do it.

Re: Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
Im usually against it under certain circumstances, being:
When the motor being installed is either against the principals of the car, or the engine throws off the balance of a car. For example: - ANY piston engine in an RX-7, if you want to drop a big engine in an empty shell, there are many other cars to choose from. This is a situation where I can be considered a purist. |

Re: Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
who cares what car it came out of. If you have the fabrication skills to get it to work, then go ahead. Be different. But, If you just plan on paying some shop to do the work for you, then put a bullet in your head right now, becuase you have too much money than you know what to do with.
The problem with using another manufactures engines in a honda isnt the "cross breed" factor, its the fact that the Honda PGM-FI system and simple but effective engine layout ARE TOP NOTCH. have you ever tried to WORK ON a 3800? they are a major pain in the ass. nothing is located where it should be. PGM-FI FOR LIFE! |

Re: Whats your oppinion on crossbreeding (motor from differnt company)
doing all work myself, and I currently own a 3800, is kinda a pain to get to some of the stuff, but its a bullet proof motor. Honda motors are superior to most but I got an itching for more power and want a v6 in it, but not an accord v6 because those ... well just suck.
