im curious about interchanging with a 1.5 and 1.6

is it possible to use a 1.6 d16y8 block and drop in a d15b2 crank in it while keeping the y8 rods and piston heads?

here the deal: the y8 motor has 46thousand on the mileage scale, the dudes car got stolen, it was recovered in perfect body shape but had rod knock. when the block was stripped, piston #1 spun out the bearings and that area of the crank does have scratches on it/ its even got burnt marks.

Is there any damage to the y8 crank? do you all think new bearings and the 1.6 cank can be used again?

can not use d15 crank in d16, or i would do it for the better rod:stroke ratio.

take the crank to a machine shop, they will know.

as long as its not bent then the crank should be good, if it spun a bearing it probably messed up the jernals on the crank but you could have it turned.

Re: im curious about interchanging with a 1.5 and 1.6

hey thanks for the info so far... I've seen a couple of d16y7 cracnks on ebay for around 5 to 10 bucks with 40/50 shipping. Did honda use the same spec crank on the y7 and y8? I would like to belive so because its almost the same block??
I'm going to take it to a shop sometime this month and see what they say.

Re: im curious about interchanging with a 1.5 and 1.6

hey hey... ok in relation to this topic...

I took the time to strip the d15b2 i have over the weekend =

you cannot use the d15b2 crank in the y8 block or the d16 crank in the d15 block. the d15 has a skinner crank than the d16 (i saw the difference between .1 liter within these motors). the cranks are the same length but different width.

im probably going to use the y8 block i have. all the shops out here want to charge a high price just to look at the crank for me..

so i looked at it myself using common sense and math logic. the bearing got dis logged and spun out. the crank is fine and measure up with the other cylinders as normal. so a new set of bearings and im good to go.

I know the rod lenghts on the d16y8 to the d15b2 are different (the y8 has a longer rod) lengths. how about the piston heads?

should i go with the b2 heads on the y8 block or stick with the y8 heads?

Im planning on... using the y8 block/ crank/ stock bearings/ rods/rings/ (what should i do with the piston heads/ b2 or y8/does it make a difference on compression?) and running a block guard. I do plan on boosting this block in the future with no more than 7 to 10 PSI.

as for the head... im looking into a z6 or y8 head.... the current setup is a b2 within this 89 civic = can i keep my setup as odb0 with the pm6 ecu i have under a 92 + z6/y8 head? = i'll use somehting like a vafc to activate the vtec.... is that possible?
