I own a 2002 Maxima that also has a gas door that is no longer flush with the car and opens hard. The car is under warranty for another 2000 miles but the dealer would not fix the door under the warranty. They stated that I should have oiled the door hinges with every oil change but maintenance is not located in any of the manuals.

Its not hard to fix . Usually caused by bending the door backwards or tight hinges . Yes you should lube them like all the doors on your car. Take it off . Push the hing part back down to the door and reinstall the door . Right where the hinge meets the door youll see where its bent away from the door . S4et the door on a folded up towel and just use a screwdrvier or something similar to push the hinge back flush with the door .
