should i sell my max and get a 240

i have a 97 max se 5spd with a cai...im guessing i can sell that for about....6 in a half grand.....thats if i want to sell it...it only has 61k miles on it hasnt been rebuilt....but that is only runing around 14.9 in the 1/4 and about 6.8 in 0-60....so to get to the point the 240 can be a quick lil bi*ch but i was wondering i could get a 96 for about 4 k.....then get the engine swap for around 3k or 3.5....so it would cost me 7 k...but how fast woul the car actually be with the stock sr20 swap....wut numbers does it produce in the 1/4 and 0-60....i htink it has like 250 somthin stock horsepower rite? how fast does the stock sr20 on a 96 240 run the 1/4 and 0-60?

Like all the others have said before. If your just gonna be drag racing. Look into turboing the KA. Because with 3k in a turbo setup...your rollin' my friend. Rollin' quick.

I say KA too. But the SR stock runs around a 14.5. You can get them into the 13s with bolt ons and they are probably pretty reliable. Like they say, pick two of the three: Fast, Cheap, Reliable.

Re: should i sell my max and get a 240

i have a maxima (95) and a 240 with an sr in it... best of both worlds

sr's run mid-high 14s stock. if you want to drop in a fmic, fuel pump, boost controller... look at mid 13s.

Go with upping the power of the KA, you'll get the best 1/4 mile times and for less, the SR is good for drifting, but the KA kicks ass in the 1/4 if you T it and add some bolt-ons, not to mention the extra .4L displacement and a setup already built for TQ.

numbers for the SR20DET aren't that impressive. For the Straight anyways. Their main purpuse is for drifting. Like SHO411 said, if you want straight line power stick with the KA and play around with that.

i dont really think that the 240sx will ever be a great car for drag racing, i mean it can be quick but their are better choices for that, the 240 is however the most fun car ive drivin for the money, i mean it handles awesome, gives you okay power, but it can go sideways anytime you want it to. so really for me its just the cheapest way to rase the heart rate. so i would say if you want something that can get you down the 1/4 mile the fastest, then the 240 is not for you, but if you want something that you can have a blast everyday driving then go for it.

Yea, like a supra, 300zx, RX-7, or a domestic. These are all usually more expensive(by a lot) than the 240. You can pick up a 5.0 and be pretty fast, but then you are the millionth person who has one.

Not really. A lot of people drag them. They are light, RWD, come with a torquey engine, and have a lot of possibilities(turbo, engine swap, all-motor, ect). They can be very fast with a small budget.

Re: should i sell my max and get a 240

The problem with a KA is that reliablilty falls way off after about 275HP, the stock bottom end of a SR is good for well over 400HP. Also, kinda hard to get a fast SR20 for 7K. A stock SR is only rated at around 200hp crank at 7psi, but if you go to 14psi of boost with a FMIC and a few other bolt ons, you can get 227hp at the wheels, but figure on at least $2-2.5K more for the bolt-ons.

Re: should i sell my max and get a 240

numerous people have hit between 240-250whp on average with just a fmic, downpipe, exhaust and boost controller set to 14psi. that takes a good 1500 to setup, considering you do nothing else such as clutch or etc.

another 2k for 300whp turbo kit, or 2.5k for 350whp, or 3k for 400whp. jgycustoms sells turbo kits custom made to what you want... (note all hp figures take or give 20whp)

of course, none of the prices include labor. i agree with kouki san that its hard to get a fast one for 7k... it takes more along the lines of 8-9k. they are expensive cars but well worth it...

Re: should i sell my max and get a 240

For 7k, you can rebuild a KA(2k) or just get a set of forged pistons (700 including machine work). The connecting rods and crank are forged already. Then you have 5k to do as you please. That should cover a decent turbo setup and a few essentials like a clutch and an LSD.
