Exclamation Overheating 1.9 Wagon!!

I have been trying to troubleshoot my mothers car for the last couple of days. The fan never comes on when the car gets hot. It also never comes on with the A/C turned on. I replaced the temp sensor on the pipe near the thermostat. My manual says to jump wires directly to the fan motor to see if it will come on. I have done this on the old fan motor and now two new motors. I cannot get the fan motor to come on at all. If I can determine that the motor is at least good, I will just put a toggle switch on it. Any suggestions on testing? Where are the relays? I see in the manual that there are 2. High speed and low speed. Is the one under the fuse cover considered one of the relays? PLEASE HELP ME!!

Re: Overheating 1.9 Wagon!!

That was my problem with my 92 Wagon 1.9 SEFI. The relay went bad right next to the Passenger side windshield wiper. I eventually had my mechanic grandpa straight wire it to a fuse in the fusebox, and ground it to the radiator mounts. Problem with that the car don't do anything til you turn the key, the fan cuts on and off with the key though, but it would be problematic for somone living up north where it snows. The fan is always running, so you burn more fuel cause the car is always cold! still, I got 30mpg like that.
One more note, when he was fiddling around trying to find a positive wire, he knocked out alot of electricals inside the car, the globe light, the radio, and that nice beeping noise when you open the door.

If you run a hot 12 volt wire to the motor it should run. Then you can break it with a switch. P/S what about the olden days when car fans ran all the time, we still got heat in them there cars up north. Ha HA

I wired my fan directly, however, be carefull to use a large enough wire. I used 14 gauge wire and it melted to the engine and shorted.
