Won't hold idle

I have a reccuring problem with my 95 Explorer that is driving me crazy. every so often when the car is warmed up after a trip, when trying to restart the engine fires up but as soon as I take my foot of the gas the car dies. constant tries to restart amount to the same thing. The only cure is to let the car cool down for a couple of hours. It has been to a service station and they could find nothing wrong at all. This is really frustrating as you do not know when it is going to happen next. Any ideas??????

I had a very similar problem with a 1997 Ford Aerostar van. It turned to be the idle/air control valve. I took it in to have an engine diagnostic done on it and they could not find anything wrong with it. Apparently the problem was intermittant. I did some research on my own, talked to a few people, and wound up changing the idle/air control valve. The problem went away and never came back as long as I had the van. I'm not sure if you explorer has this component, but it's a place to start.

Re: Won't hold idle

Yes, wrigley123 is right. Your IAC valve is bad/dirty, just take it apart and clean it you first before you buy a new one. Most of them just dirty.
