SRT-4 motors
Im sorry if this is a stupid question but I very new to the Dodge Neon scene(currently drive an 01' Cavalier) but I know that they have a TON of potential which is why Im planning on getting a 1996 Neon. It has the SOHC engine in it and I heard from a friend that I could drop a brand new SRT-4 engine into it. If I could do this, could anybody tell me how this can be done and what needs to be done to make this a successful swap. thanks!!!
By the way, where can i get a hold of a SRT-4 engine? |

Hey. THE ANSWER IS ON THE ORG. j/p dont you hate it when people do that? Anyway the answer to your question is yes it can be done. But there is couple of problems. 1) the intercooler needs to be fabricated to fit in a 96 neon. 2) The srt-4 has some type of weird electronics that no one wants to mess with. So in order for you to fire it up would be to get an engine controller and piggyback that system to the motor.

Re: SRT-4 motors
The SRT-4 engine uses a different PCM and crank sensor/trigger than previous PL2000's ('00-up Neons) so you'll need to change that in order to use it. You won't be able to use any PCM from a '96 or any other '95-'99 Neon.
Your only option is stand-alone engine managment. The easiest thing is to swap over to a DOHC head and use an SRT-4 turbo/manifold and fab up your own intercooler, pipes and fuel system. You should be able to pick up the turbo/manifold combo cheap as many SRT-4 owners are moving up to the AGP and ATP and others upgrades. The 2.4L swap isn't super simple, but easier than most. You need a new pass side mount or modified mount. Overall, you're better off just getting a turbo kit for the SOHC engine actually, its easier... Albeit somewhat more costly. |
