Simple question. How many quarts?
Do i put in my 2001 chevy cavalier?
I put 4 quarts in when i changed my oil last night, but when i checked it today, i cant tell how much is in it. When i put the dipstick in, there seems to be oil all over it.

You "think"? or are you sure?
Also, does anyone know why it'd be so hard for me to tell how much oil is in my car? I drained the oil completely last night, (even had the car up on ramps, so the drain was pointing more downward than usual), put 4 quarts of oil in it, yet when i checked the level this morning, i seem to get oil going halfway up the dipstick. Does it take a while for the oil to drain all the way down the fill/check hole?

Im pretty sure the 2.2 is 4 quarts. After you get all the oil in, make sure everything is tight and start it. Leave it running for 15 seconds or so, make sure the oil filter isnt leaking, and check the level.
Look for the typical markings on the dipstick which will tell you where the level should be. If its close to the line, over or under, youll be fine. If its way too high or way low, add or drain as necessary. Oh, and drain the oil on a level surface, or make sure the car is tilted back toward the drain plug, so it all comes out.

The 2.2 ohv or 2200 ohv is 4 quarts.
the 2.4 is ruffly 4.5 quarts.

Always check your oil when the engine is cool. This will mean that all the oil has drained down back in to the oil pan. Sometimes it is hard to see the the level of oil on the dipstick after an oil change because the new oil is almost transparent in color.
One rule of thumb I always follow......it is better for you engine to underservice oil then it is to overservice oil. Obviously in a perfect world you should have the exact amount of oil in the vehicle that your vehicle manufacturer calls for but, it is better to have less than more! Mike

One rule of thumb I always follow......it is better for you engine to underservice oil then it is to overservice oil. Obviously in a perfect world you should have the exact amount of oil in the vehicle that your vehicle manufacturer calls for but, it is better to have less than more!
