95 Rodeo/Passport possible blown rings?

My 95 Passport 3.2 V6 suddenly started blowning black smoke and oil. I drove it in some flood waters the day before, but was very controlled and never let the water get higher then the bottom of the doors. I know this isn't the smartest thing to do, but I've been off-roading long enough to keep it slow and very controlled. Anyway, Later that night as I sat in the drive though I noticed black smoke and a smell. So I changed the oil the very next day, and the oil wasn't bad at all maybe 2500 easy miles. I am hoping it isn't burnt rings and I'm getting blow back. One last point, the Check engine light comes on after I would get a few mile down the road, then after stopping and restarting the car it goes off followed by the same thing. It idles a bit higher and accelerating is slow, any suggestions?

Perhaps a plugged up PCV system? Check the PCV valve see if its gunked up.
