Question '99 Security Light

The security light in my '99 comes on at random. What will cause this? I have a aftermarket audio system, alarm, and remote start. What systems will cause this light to come on after I start it?

Re: '99 Security Light

It can either be the remote starter or the vehicle itself. There are countless threads on this on here. THe only thing you could do it have the RS checked and maybe temporaly taken out (just the area that bypasses the OEM security) or have a new ignition module installed.

Re: '99 Security Light

Well, I figured it out. GM's Passlock system. About two months ago I came out of the local mall to see that it wasn't started (remote); so I tried the key a couple time, no luck. I waited a little bit the tried and it ran just fine. Yesterday morning it done it again so I timed how long it i took, ten minutes.

Passlock system: It starts then stalls a second later. wait 10 minutes, and do it again, it wil fire right up.

Yep, read your owner's manual. It states that if it is started with the wrong code it will lock you out for 10 minutes. The problem is that it is only to lock you out like that if you had several wrong code attempts, not one. So, like I said before, it is either the RS or vehicle. You better start getting it looked at because it might get to the point where it won't start at all.

I am having the same problem however now it wont start. Please let me know what you find out is the cause. I have already disconnected the RS but really feel it is the passlock system. Thanks!

Reset your computer by pulling the negative battery wire off of the battery for 15 minutes.

Reconnect and see if it helps.

Are you getting any check engine lights?

turn the ignition on for 10 minutes with everything else off like radio, lights, and such. Then try to start it.

Re: '99 Security Light

Tried that with no luck. Now battery seems to be dead as all I'm getting is clicking sound. Cleaned batt cable, reattached---

Re: '99 Security Light

Take the battery out and completely charge it outside of the vehicle.

Check your alternator and its ground and battery connections.

Re: '99 Security Light

Dealer found faulty ignition switch and replaced. Now working fine but still leery. leaving RS unhooked for awhile to test "fix".
