Re: Single to TT

anything is possible with the right amount of money my friend. i have never heard anybody having a TT setup on a z31. nor have i ever seen a kit for it. if somebody knows about a kit to do this, it would be longlivethez. try heading over to z31.com and ask them.

Re: Single to TT

I'm not sure why you would want a TT set-up? It makes no sense! Just go with a larger turbo... or if you are really TT envy... then swap in a VG30DETT!

yeah...i agree with 1viadrift here. unless u really really want a TT i think it would be better to stick with the single turbo. if its turbo lag your worried about, by the time you spend the money to swap a new motor or do some crazily custom shit, with todays technology you can have a nearly lagless turbo set-up pushin way more power with a single turbo set-up with the money you would save from a conversion.

thanks guys. the only reason i was wonderin is bcuz im 15 turnin 16 and im crazy about Z's but i didnt have enough money for a 1990 thru '96 300zx TT. I go to skool for Transportation and i have a wifde knowlege about cars.

So you guys are suggesting just swap it? Are the mounts the same, or will custom mounts need to b made?

One thing ive been wondering do all aftermarket turbos, do they fit stock exhaust manifolds or does some customizing need to b made?

thanks a lot once again

Re: Single to TT

stick with stock. that young and most likely next to none driving experience, you don't need to be put into a higher-powered car. i had a year of driving cars before i got my n/a. and yet the n/a was almost too much for me.

if you really feel you need to swap it. do it. but i doubt anything is going to be the same. so your probably going to need to customize a bunch of stuff. plus if you didnt have enough money to buy a TT in the first place you probably wont have enough money to swap in the TT motor unless you have a whole front clip just laying in your garage. good luck man but i dont think it would be to bright of an idea if you do have the money to do it. i say atleast $5,000 in parts, motor, and tranny. thats not including labor or custom creations.

should probably keep the same manifold but some turbos require you buy an aftermarket downpipe.

He got it workin.

Anyway, don't bother upgrading the Z31 just yet. Spend a few hundred on some race schools and track days to get the feel of how different a car handles at the limit. Most people think because they know how to pick a line or pull a 90 degree corner with minimal braking means they know how to race, thats some serious over estimation of ones skills, thats the first thing I learned at the track).

That and a fast daily driver is just a waste of money and a pain in the ass all around.

Re: Single to TT

Aaaaaaaaaaaaalright. Hold up the pony train, here...

1) 99.874% of 15 yr olds in very high powered cars is nothing more than a recipe for disaster...the remaining .126% swear up and down that they know what they're doing...but usually ending up the same way. I was a miniacle mad man in my 86 n/a when I was 16...(that car has in the area of 170 harmless horsepower...your car has 205...)you go bumping up the power and...well...3 words for you...YOU'LL KILL YOURSELF!!!

2) Unless mommy and daddy are bankrolling your rolling disaster, I highly doubt you have the flow to do anything worth while to your car. New turbos can run into the $1200 range, an intercooler kit is over $1200 BEFORE LABOR from JWT, Nismo heads are over $700...EACH...you need TWO! You get my point? If you want some cheap, decent mods that I don't think you'd be too quick at killing yourself with lemme know....

Quick sum-up...the veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery first thing you do...get used to the car the way it is. I probably would have killed myself in the 86T I have now at your age. Second thing you do...after you've got good and used to the car is get most of the crazy driving out of your system. Third thing you do...after driving the car for ~6 months and rolling your pennies that whole time...after learning aaaaall you can about the car so you can make wise upgrade and Z care decisions...is come to me...you're resident, loving Z31 guy...

i think jwt makes a 400 BB or something like that. maybe the medium sized JWT would be your best bet.

Re: Single to TT

Nah...there's a turbo on JWT's site that's good for 680 horsepower. This really means NOTHING if you don't have the rest of the engine and all to handle that beast.

But...like I was telling the kid...it's over $1,300...before shipping and tax.
