Question A/C clutch locked up

The A/C clutch on my 99 Rodeo 3.2 is locked up solid. The pulley will not turn at all. The front plate on the clutch does turn, but I thought it wasn't supposed to. As a result of the frozen pulley, the serpentine belt broke and the car is DITD (Dead In The Driveway).

Do I need a new A/C clutch? Does anyone know where I can find one (besides a dealer )? I have been searching but none of the local parts stores or Internet parts outlets seem to carry the clutch by itself. I would prefer not to have to replace the compressor just because the clutch has gone out.

Thanks

q.

Re: A/C clutch locked up

a new compressor I haven't seen up for sale.

Try scrap dealers for a used one which still works.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I found a reputable A/C shop in town that will pull it apart and tell me what I need. I'm afraid that I might need a new compressor, but maybe I'll get lucky ...
