Unhappy Hot Front Passenger Floorboard

I am concerned!! Family and I went on small trip (about 1 hour drive). While riding on front passenger's side, I noticed that the floorboard was feeling warm. When we arrived at home, hubby got out and felt floorboard with hands. It was almost too hot to touch. We have a 1999 K1500 5.7 V-8 4x4 that is always driven on 2-Hi. Was wondering if catalytic converter is suspect? We just got this vehicle and don't want any major problems up front!! It has 148,000 miles and otherwise runs great!!! Thanks for help.
