Timing Setting
Hi there. We had to replace my timing belt on my 1995 mirage since it broke on me while driving down the freeway. There is no sign that it did any other damage when it went but when putting the new one on the person that is helping me didn't mark where the timing marks were. Does anyone have a copy of a diagram showing where the marks are to line up the timing correctly so that my car will start. I am desperate to get it on the road immediately since I have already lost about $400 by not being able to get to work.
thanks, angel |

ok im goin to try to explain as good as i can.
take belt off, then take your spark plug out of the #1 piston on the farthest to the left of the motor, get a long screw driver and place it in the plug hole, get down and turn crank pulley bolt clockwise until the timing marks on the block and pulley line up and the screwdriver raises as far as it can go before it starts goin down again(TDC), should be arrows or/and lines, then line the cam shaft timing lines/arrows up, one on the cam sprocket and one on the cylinder head. once the mark are lined up correctly (Top Dead Center)make sure neither pulleys move, and put the belt back on, make sure the side nearest the front is tight and then tighten timing belt tensioner to get belt tight. thats what i remember from my book, ill double check tonite when i go home and ill post tomorrow to let you know. good luck, later JEREMY
