Hi all,
I have a 2000 Xterra 4x4 SE with “6” speaker stereo. I want to replace the lower speakers in the front door with aftermarket 6 1/2” speakers. Here is my question. If I replace the 6” speakers will all the highs of the stereo be reproduced? I am wondering if Nissan has some sort of built in crossover that bypasses the 6” speaker and sends all the highs to the door-mounted tweeter. If I replace the 6” speakers in the bottom of the door it will not be getting the full range of the stereo because the highs are being sent to the crappy tweeters. Does anyone know the answer? Any speaker recommendation.. I am keeping the stock deck. I just want a better sound that stock.. Thanks. |

Re: Replace Door Speakers- What about the HIGHS?
My advice would be to check with Crutchfield.com or call them @ 1-888-955-6000. They have very good "advisors" that seem to know alot about most every car. They can recommend a good quality speaker. Size is 6 3/4" and/or 6 1/2". Also think about replacing the head unit. Your quality of sound is only going to be as good as your source. And the head units do leave something to be desired. Good luck!!

Re: Replace Door Speakers- What about the HIGHS?
No, your door speaker gets full signal, and your tweeter has a built in crossover (6db capacitor).
The door speakers that come with the 6 speaker setup naturally cut off at about 8kH. The tweeters have a 4.7uF capacitor on it which cuts lows at 8.5kH. |

Re: Replace Door Speakers- What about the HIGHS?
To answer the second part of your question, replacing the factory speakers without replacing the deck will give you better quality at med to low volume. Those factory decks have very little power to begin with. Add a nice (power hungry) set of speakers and your non-distorted volume drops.

Re: Re: Replace Door Speakers- What about the HIGHS?
Thank you for your reply.. That's what I needed to know..
I guess I will get some decent speakers in there and if I don't like the sound still, I will replace the deck. I am also wondering if they make a adapter that goes from the CD changer input to RCA jacks so I can hard wire and iPod. Does anyone make that? Will it work? Is it Clarion or Pioneer who makes tha factory stereos? I have 2000 SE X. thanks, cg |
