2000 xle fob's

Interesting problem guys...

I just bought my 2000 xle on wednesday and yesterday the wireless system started to act screwy, repair guys at my dealership won't be in till tomorrow.

Everytime you press the lock button it now locks and quickly unlocks all doors. The only way you can actually lock the vehicle is to use the door buttons or manually lock each door. If you press the lock key once the theft deterrence is active, it relocks and unlocks all doors, thus setting of the alarm because it thinks that the doors have been opened from the inside.

I have tried checking all door switches, ignition switches, gear selector switch.. I can't figure it out. It is acting like one of the safety switches is being triggered.

I have also tried disconnecting the battery and pulling fuses to try to reset the system, but with no success. I have found the 2000 fob programming and that did not work either. The problem seems to be on the vehicle side of the keyless entry system. Any ideas on what I can do? Any ideas are appreciated.

Thank you,

Russell Leikis

You might be having problems with your key fob...the button may be sticking, or the contact may be dirty. You could either take it apart and clean it, or replace it. It doesn't sound like a problem with the TVIP system. The TVIP is a very complicated system, so even if it was a problem with the car, you will need to take it to the dealer for service.

Can anyone think of any sensors that might cause the door locks to unlock themselves. It is acting like a safety sensor is being tripped but only with the fob's.. Even if it sounds like I have already tried it please suggest it!!

Again, thank you all for any help you might be able to give.

I guess we'll see what the dealer has to say tomorrow morning...

Well, there is a sensor that will unlock the doors if there is a key in the ignition and the doors are locked from the inside and you get out of the car and close the locked doors. (the sensor is in the seat). If there isn't a key in the ignition, then locking the doors from the door button, or the FOB should leave the doors locked.

Might have to have it checked at Toyota.

Ok, the dealer spent about 6 hours today working on this. Nothing. They have several mechanics working on it and cannot figure it out. They even reprogrammed the entire keyless system. >
They are going to keep researching it and contact toyota directly. We'll see how that goes. In the mean time, my week old car doesn't lock...

Again, any ideas are greatly appreciated.

That's pitiful. The dealer should be able to come up with a solution to your problem as soon as you have brought it in. I know that this problem has occured more than once before...and usually it's caused by a faulty system. If your vehicle is covered under the factory warrantee still, the dealer should fix it free of charge.

Re: 2000 xle fob's

Yeah so far they are stumped, though they are going to fix it for free. I paid a little extra to have it 'toyota certified' and that expanded and extended the warranty.
Though they did have the audacity to suggest disabling the keyless all together...

Hopefully they get it figured out...and when they do, let us know what it was so we can help out anyone else who happens to come across this problem in the future. And you can expect the dealer to suggest disabling the keyless system, it's the easiest way out, and plus, they could possibly charge you for that.
