For the 4th gen, the best was the 95 VTEC, due to OBD1.

For the 5th gens I would assume the earlier (97-99?) OBDIIa's were better.

All 5th Gens were OBDII; There was a split between OBDII though (A and B) I believe A is 97-99 and B is 00-01.

OBDII Vehicles tend to "detune" themselves to meet emissions standards, thus have less response to mods.

I would assume OBDIIa is better, since emissions regulations get more strict as the years pass.

Re: best year for preludes?

You have to realize that this question is much too subjective. Better for what. Dragging? Autocrossing? Getting groceries?

I should say for the former two, a fourth gen would be right up your alley. The fifth gen seems to accomodate passengers better.

Re: best year for preludes?

4th gens run .3 secs faster down a quarter mile than the 5th gens. However, the front is ugly as hell. 5th gen is better imo.

Re: best year for preludes?

body styling i say the 4th gen. Power, i'd say a 5th gen unless it was a 4th gen VTEC, or if you plan on doing a swap it's 4th gen all the way. Can't beat it.
