i love my honda, but i mostly love driving fast cars... and if i can go fast and get 40mpg, i'm cool with that

actually, i DO have a question- i'm working on an 89 5.0. it's a red hatch with a 5-spd auto and the full race kit (i don't know the exact model, havn't seen the title yet :/ but i think it's a GT ). it's got 380k miles on it (Holy crap) and although it still has plenty of power, it's leaving little blue puffs of smoke wherever it takes off, and they aren't from the tires. the current owner (original owner) is going to finally break down and buy a yota or a honda or something to commute in, so this baby is getting fully rebuilt- mostly by me, Mr. Power-for-cheap . obviously it's going to need seals, bearings, etc.. etc.., and i know i can get stuff for it.

what i really want to do is build the car either for a single large turbo, or for twin-turbo. problem is, i don't know how that particular engine is going to react to FI... am i going to turn that thing into a thousand-pound ball of schrapnel? what kind of overbuilt parts can i source to beef it up? i wanna have fun with it, so sacrificing daily-drivability is a-ok.

oh, and how much hp should that car be making stock? i'm sure it's not making it now, but i want a baseline idea as to what it SHOULD be doing.

thanks, go-fast enthusiasts everywhere

first off thanks. now. how much boost is it going to run on? what kind of block do you think of getting? for street or street/strip? will you be using the laughing gas latter on? there are manny things out there for the 5.0 but turbos are kind of rare. superchargers are easier to find. but there are some turbo companies that make them for 5.0s. we need more info to help you choose.

i wasn't thinking of any crazy boost, probably a single turbo with maybe 15lbs of pressure, tops. this'll be tuned mostly for Street, possibly an occaisonal trip to the strip. negative on the laughing gas, i'd like to make it as powerful as possible in a street-legal trim. i know that there are tons of supercharger options for larger engines, but i thought it'd be interesting to see the results of a turbo on a large-displacement engine. i've pondered possibly a twin-turbo set up for quicker spooling times, but i think it'd be more work then it's worth. maybe if i make a dedicated strip/show car later

oh- as far as block-wise goes, will i probably need to replace it, or can i buy a rebuild kit for it? this is a budget-type operation, the more i can do myself to save money, the better. i'm relatively handy with a wrench, after all
