abs or fiberglass bumper fillers?

Which bumper /body gap fillers hold up and take a finish best, ABS or fiberglass. and who has had experience with the outfits that sell and make them?

Why not just keep the chrome part and get rid of all the real bumper. The outside chrome layer is just a spiffy cover that you can keep on there. Loosing your bumper would be about 100lbs off your car.
