Exclamation Possesed Bonneville

Last night I turned off my 95 Bonneville and as I was getting out, I noticed something funny: the engine was still running! I put the key back in and moved it to "Run" and back to off, but it still kept going even after several attempts. I even chances putting it in "Start" and it kept going. When the key was in the off position and the key removed the engine still ran, but the A/C fan, radio, radiator fan and everything else remained off. The only thing that stayed on (besides the engine) was the Security light. After about 15 minuets of trying various things the engine just shut off, apparently by itself.

Since then the engine has started and stopped just fine. Was it a fluke? Is it a computer problem?

Help!

You wouldn't happen to have a remote starter in there, would you?

Nope. Apparently, as the previous owner indicated, this is not the first time it has happened. The previous owner was also the original owner and said that this would happen once or twice a summer since the year he bought it brand new. He owns and runs a Napa dealership in a town some 30 miles away and he said he never really worried about it. The dealership said the same thing. I'm just a little more concerned about it I guess.

Concerned, maybe. Intrigued, definitely.

If you think about it though, power must still be flowing to the ignition circuits to sustain the fuel, spark and PCM.

Now that it's summer again, maybe it is a faulty ignition switch brought on by the ambient heat? If you are really concerned about it, how about wiring up a simple bulb to the pink wire in the main ignition harness. If it happens again you will be able to see if that circuit is still supplying power after the key is removed by observing the bulb.

That scores a good 9.5 on the wierd-chit-o-meter!
