z6 head on.. turns over but no start

Well i just got the z6 head on and went out to start the bad boy and it wouldnt start, during me trying to start it it was backfiring. I have a commandflo fpr and i had it set all the way up and then mid way and still no start. I had my friend whose a honda gear head do my timing belt change and i noticed today that the (up) listed on cam gear wasnt exactly top dead center but a bit off to the drivers side. could this be due to the timing being off? got the dizzy on halfass like most ppl do it when they using a6 dizz with 2 bolts on each side and its pretty much centered. im juss wondering if anybody can give me some word to what i should try next thanks
