Another old (fart) shade-tree mechanic

I'll read some posts and, maybe, offer a bit of backyard mechanics' wisdom but, if you're looking for REAL knowledge, you'll probably get it from one of the great people on this site who have helped me a few times.
I'm not a mechanic. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.
I currently waste too much time keeping a '97 Lumina and a '94 Pontiac Trans Sport running in spite of my better judgement. I think I'm just too stubborn to let them go the way of all (or almost all) good cars and die a graceful death. The Lumina has 103K and the Pontiac has 145K on the clock and both have had help from here. I lost a battle with the Pontiac last fall and had to have a rebuilt engine installed. That's a whole story in itself. The Lumina is cuurently refusing to read the gas level (that just started yesterday) and I think I'm going to need a $400.00 fuel pump assembly.
Of course, I could have just said "Howdy!".

Welcome and thanks for joining. We can always use more know how here. There are so many people on here that know so much, you can ask almost any question and get an educated answer. Almost everyone from the import racers to the V8 dragers are really nice. It's a great enviroment, and a cool place to kill some time.
