Water & Sugar in Gas tank that contained approx.
4 gals. of fuel. Any 'qualified' idea's on a 'solution' other than replacing the tank? Perhaps there are some 'shortcuts' that I don't know about. Awaiting Your Replies..... Vince... |

Re: Cure for Sugar in Gas Tank..?????
Dissconnect the fuel lines that go to the engine, turn the fuel pump on until gas is fully emptied out of the tank. I'm not sure if this will work tough, sounds logical

Sugar does not dissolve in gasoline, meaning that it is possible to drop the tank, drain it out, clean it as best you can, replace the fuel filter and hope that none got past it into the delivery system. Normally if it were just water I would recommend a gasoline additive to remedy the problem, but since you will have to drop the gas tank anyways, you can take that opportunity to clean the tank of any contaminants.
Assuming none of the sugar got past the filter, the main issue is the fact that your fuel filter is clogged. You will have to clean out your gas tank or else every new filter you put in will become clogged very quickly.

Re: Cure for Sugar in Gas Tank..?????
Thanks for the response/s.
Can't shoot the guy yet. He's behind bars now.! The 'sugar/water' was discovered prior to starting engine and engine 'has not and will not be started' until this problem is corrected. integra..Mechanical fuel pump is mounted on engine, so am not able to 'pump out' as suggested. Removal of tank itself looks like 'a big job' on this '86 Z28 and I was hoping to find a sure-fire way to correct this problem without removing the tank. I appreciate the input. I'm a 'newbie' on this MB and was hoping to Post this in the Camaro section but it looks like I'm posted in the introduction section instead. Any more ideas? Vince |
